Lupisellas in Nicaragua

The finished project - the school in Las Minitas, El Sauce Nicaragua!  I was able to be there for opening day with Kris, Kellan, Yaci, Enrique, the wonderful construction crew and many new friends.  What a glorious day it was in every sense of the word!  The community loved the school, the teacher, Maynor, was in awe, the children thrilled; just priceless!

Couldn’t help but wonder what our children would think of a one room school for 37 first through sixth graders?  Please be grateful for the schools in your own community.

Photos of our next project site in El Guyabo, another mountain community of El Sauce Nicaragua.  We will begin fundraising the $12,000 needed to build this school in July. Thanks to two HF-L Middle School girls, we have $160 already!  If you would like to donate, please contact Rob and Jeanine at lupisella@rochester.rr.com.  We are hoping to break ground in December so the school will be ready in February 2013.

The school is on its way to completion.  The pictures above show progress as of 1/26/12.  The Mayors office is in charge of the rest of the construction. We had hoped the roof would go on the last week of January, but there was a tragedy for the Mayor of El Sauce - our hearts go out to her.  Hopefully the project will be able to be completed for the opening ceremony on 2/11/12.  Kris Dreessen and I (Jeanine) will be heading to Nicaragua on Tuesday, 2/7/12, to attend the ceremony.  Stay tuned for updated photos and news.

The sun has set on this project only for another to emerge on the horizon!

Possible future project to replace this school in a nearby community - El Gueyobo. Please let us know if you want to help too!

Some fun In Las Minitas the last week.

Our home in Las Minitas for the last two weeks.

Our last night and morning in Nicaragua was spent in Leon with the students, Kellan and Yaci (directors of Enlace and our friends).

Saying good bye!  We have pictures of our last time at the school, us with the group of masons who worked on the school, us with the family we stayed with in Las Minitas, and Aleta in El Sauce.
